Palm Sunday – Hosanna in the Highest

Luke 19:28-40

CONSIDER

As I was preparing this sermon about humility, one thing was clear to me. I will share on Sunday not really having a leg to stand on when it comes to talking about humility because I’m a pride-filled person.

Thankfully, the sermon isn’t pointing to me but to Jesus and how He rode into town on a lowly donkey, showing the world that a true king is one who humbly puts others first.

My hope for us on Palm Sunday is that Jesus will work in our hearts to transform and make us more like Him so that we can be a church that bears witness to Christ in the way we humbly serve each other and those in our community.

Looking forward to worshiping together.

PRAYER

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. (Psalm 25:8-9)

Lord, help us to be a people who look to the cross & see that we are broken and filled with pride. Lift our eyes that we may Jesus, our humbly king, who lowered himself and died for us so that we can experience an abundant and eternal life with the Creator of the universe. Amen.

DIVING DEEPER

What are your reflections from the sermon?

Read this quote by C.S. Lewis and share your thoughts with each other:

“If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The first step is to realize that one is proud. And a biggish step, too.  At least, nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed.” – Mere Christianity

What areas do you feel pride has a strong grip on your life?

When you look at the general trajectory of your life, are you becoming humbler?

Read Philippians 2:5-11 and look at the humility of Christ on the cross. How does this affect the way you understand humility?
