As our ministry together draws to a close it seems fitting to reflect on what God has done in our midst during the last number of years. Like Paul, who reflected on his time with the Philippians, “I thank God every time I remember you and pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (Philippians 1:3,4)
As I think of the last nine years I thank God for your love of his Word and your desire to study and apply it to your lives. If I had any energy to preach or teach it was because you kept showing up with pens ready, and notebooks open eager to learn with me.
I thank God for your love of mission. Your support of missionaries here at home and around the world is to be commended. The gospel is being preached in the far regions of the world because of your faithfulness.
I thank God for your willingness to share the faith with others. Janet and I are continually amazed with your evangelistic zeal. You have taken the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20) seriously and sought to tell the world about Jesus Christ through word and deed. Whether it be through your participation in the Out of the Cold program, short term missions, HNM community garden, praying for the unsaved, refugee sponsorship, or simply inviting people to worship, you have shown a love for others that honours God’s name. May you never forget that SCBC was created for the sake of its non-members.
I thank God for how many of you have supported our ministry together by offering your gift in service to our Lord. Some of you are great with children and have done the important ministry of nursery care, or Sunday School teaching. Others of you are great with finances and have given your time to make sure our accounts are in order. Still others have the gift of music and have graced us again and again with your ministry in worship. The list goes on and on – community group leaders, EMT members, GLO worship leaders ….. whatever service you have offered you have played an important role in the body of Christ during these last nine years and I give thanks to God for you.
Because of all this I can confidently echo Paul’s words, “It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart …. All of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:7,8)
As always, with thankfulness for you,
