John 13:1-17
CONSIDER
This weekend is our Generations as One conference and we are glad to welcome those who are attending to join us for worship.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus interrupts the meal with His disciples by getting up to wash their feet. The disciples upon entry of the house should have washed one another’s feet but failed to do so, potentially because they were filled with pride and were arguing over who was the greatest. Jesus does for them what they should have done for each other by washing their feet. If the God of the universe can humble Himself to wash our feet, how can we not be a people who humbly love one another by doing the same!
This week, the kids will join us for the entirety of the service and our hope and prayer is that we can better understand how to be an intergenerational community that participates in God’s mission in how we love and humbly serve each other.
See you Sunday.

PRAY
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-8)
Father, help us to be a people who walk in humility and serve one another, just as you did for us on the cross. Amen.
DIVING DEEPER
How do you feel about the idea of washing someone else’s feet? Would you rather wash someone’s feet or have them wash your feet?
What do v1, 3, and 11 teach us about the bigger story that is happening in the book of John/scripture as a whole?
Look at the dialogue between Peter and Jesus (v6-10) and explain what is happening?
How does the washing of feet act as a reminder of our need to continually confess sin? What does it mean that Peter does not have to bathe but only wash his feet?
How is Jesus challenging you to wash the feet of another person? What is He specifically inviting you to do?
