Undivided Devotion

READ

1 Corinthians 7

CONSIDER

Growing up with South Asian parents, it was always assumed that one day I should get married and have kids. It’s just the way of life. As I read through 1 Corinthians 7, I am struck at how foreign the idea of choosing to be single for the sake of the kingdom would sound to many people, including my parents and grandparents.

As we explore marriage and singleness this Sunday, may we come to see how both are a calling from Christ in which we can live fully for his glory and his kingdom. I hope this series on Transformative Relationships equips us to know Christ and proclaim His goodness in whatever situation we find ourselves in.

Pastor Tim Sreedharan

PRAY

Lord, as a community of believers, regardless of the situation we find ourselves in, help us to be a people who love you and seek to live with an undivided devotion to You in all we do. May our life not be consumed by the ways of this world but by the way of Jesus, so we can know You, experience your love, and proclaim your hope to those around us. Amen.

DIVING DEEPER

Read over the text. The main idea comes from v17 & v35.

As you read this text, particularly v35, what does it mean to live with an undivided devotion to Christ?

When you read v17, what does it mean that “each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them”?

After listening to this sermon and studying the text, where do you feel God is challenging you.

If you are single, how can you continue to be a blessing to those who are married? If you are married, how can you be a blessing to those who are single?
