The Life of Abraham: Faith, Friends, & Failures

The Life of Abraham: Faith, Friends, & Failures

READ

Genesis 12:1-9

CONSIDER

Abraham is often referred to by many as the “Father of Faith.” As the Scriptures say in Romans 4:16–17: “Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: ‘I have made you a father of many nations.’ He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

God also referred to Abraham as His friend. It is a great privilege to be called a friend of God, and honestly, I would like to be God’s friend too, so that we can share deeply. However, being a friend of God and a man of faith does not mean a life without failure. In fact, Abraham experienced many failures throughout his journey.

This week, we will explore the life of Abraham and reflect on how his story relates to our own.

PRAY

Thank You for sending so many witnesses before us, so that we may learn from their lives. Through their stories, we see that the mercies of God overcome our weaknesses, shortcomings, and even failures. Thank You for Your grace and guidance, even in the face of our stubbornness. Please continue to give us strength, wisdom, and humility to follow Your will and live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

DIVING DEEPER

To be a friend of God, we must align to God’s will. Let us examine our alignment.

Reflect on how we respond to our own failures and how we experience God’s grace and mercies.
