Moses: The Courage of Faith

Moses: The Courage of Faith

Hebrews 11:23-28

Consider

The brief account of Moses’ life here in Hebrews chapter 11, verses 23-28, walks us through significant events where we see how faith allows people to persevere through the most difficult circumstances. In these examples, individuals are able to forge ahead, to push forward, in spite of great fear, because they have a confidence in the hope provided for within the promises of God.

Moses’ confidence and faith in the promise of God to save his people from slavery in Egypt, moved him to let go of a life of potential and privilege. His confidence and faith in the promise of God allowed him to persevere through a life of hardship in identifying himself with the Israelites. This act of self sacrifice and perseverance foreshadows what Jesus would eventually do for all people, and it’s in this promise of God, manifested through Jesus Christ, that we can place our faith and confidence.

The example of Moses points us to the reality of Christ. We can persevere in the promise of Christ. In Christ, we have the promise of true and eternal life. In Christ, we have the promise of relief from the brokenness of this world. In Christ, we can persevere, as he persevered for us, and secured for us this great gift. We can persevere with the promise of Christ.

Pray

Spend some time this week to consider what the promise of Christ means for you. How might the promise of true forgiveness and eternal life, in Christ, influenced the way that you have persevered through times of struggle? During these difficult times, if you are finding it hard to even take the smallest steps forward, consider how the promise of Christ might help you to persevere in the midst of extraordinary circumstances. Is there a way you might be a source of encouragement for someone who might be going through a tough time? Is there a way you might be an encouraging companion who might walk alongside someone as they are in the midst of persevering with the promise of Christ? Pray that the Holy Spirit might inspire you to be one source of this persevering hope.
