How We Grow

How We Grow

READ

Colossians 2:6-15

CONSIDER

Gardening is a new hobby of mine that I picked up during the pandemic.  I love getting the garden ready, installing the water barrel & taking my kids to the garden center to pick out the vegetables that they want to grow this year.  Things always start with a bang but by the middle of the summer, the zucchini isn’t growing and the tomato plants aren’t flourishing.  I started well but now I feel stuck & at a loss of how to proceed.

Colossians 2:6 reminds us that “just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him.”  Christian maturity is seen in how we continue to grow as we experience setbacks and challenges.  As we come together to worship this Sunday, I pray that we will see how the gospel of Christ equips and challenges us to grow in our faith by leaning solely on Jesus.

PRAY

Lord Jesus, help us to be a people who live out the gospel each and every day.  Just as we have begun our faith journey with you, may we continue through the power of Christ.  Father, we come before you with our struggles, our relational brokenness and sin that hinders us from continuing with you.  Help us see how your gospel equips us to press forward, growing in Christ-likeness, each and every day.  Amen.

DIVING DEEPER

Where in your life do you feel stuck? Where do you struggle to grow or continue in the faith?

Explain why the supremacy of Christ (from Col 1:15-20 & 2:9-10) is the solution for the heresy the church is facing in 2:8?

Using the image of a root system from a tree, what does it mean to be rooted & built up (v6)?

How does the gospel encourage us (see 2:13-15) to continue in Christ?

How have you been encouraged and/or challenged to grow from this series in Colossians?
