Deepening In Our Witness

Deepening In Our Witness

READ

2 Timothy 2:15-26

CONSIDER

So often my shortcomings or lack of Christ-like character hinder me from being the dad, husband and pastor I desire to be. Today’s text is a helpful reminder that we are called to flee from evil and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace in community in order to be “made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.”

I hope our time together on Sunday will allow us at SCBC to deepen in our witness as Scripture forms us and the Spirit transforms us.

Pastor Tim Sreedharan

PRAY

“Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 2:20-21 – ESV

Lord, help us to flee from evil desires & pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace alongside fellow believers so that we will be a holy people, useful for your mission, and ready to serve your kingdom. Amen.

DIVING DEEPER

How are we called to correctly handle the word of truth (v15)?
Why is it important to just not know the Word but be formed in the story of Scripture?

Read v20-21. What does this section mean? How can we be made holy, useful and prepared to do any good work?

V22 is a call to flee evil desires and pursue righteousness alongside those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Why is community important in our call to become more like Christ? How have your experienced this? What are ways your group can serve each other in this journey?
