Trouble in Uz

.

This Sunday we welcome Rev. Peter Roebbelen to the pulpit. Peter is a long-time friend of Pastor Tom’s. Throughout the 90’s the two of them (along with two other pastors) met together a day a month as accountability partners.

During Peter’s 30 years of pastoral ministry in Oakville, he has served Chartwell Baptist Church (20 years) The Sanctuary (5 years) and ClearView Church (5 years).

In 2011, Peter assumed the role of President of The Charis Foundation (http://charisfoundation.ca/) which was established by close friend and mentor, Bob Bernardo. Charis exists to offer hope and healing in the name of Jesus and to see all of creation move from suffering to flourishing. This broad mandate allows Peter to participate in missional activity all around the world.

Peter has a special interest in holistic spiritual formation, mentoring, and pastoral care. He desires to see the local church fully participate in the coming of God’s kingdom in every sector of society. A unique aspect of his pastoral ministry has been to journey with the dying and their family members. He has written a book on this subject titled, Mercy – Life in the Season of Dying, which was recently released.

It is fitting then, that Peter will be taking us through the book of Job, which is a case study for us as we deal with our own troubles. Job’s story helps us to understand what we should do and what we shouldn’t do in the midst of difficulty. Jesus said that in this world we will have trouble. Trouble is a given. So how can we work through a season of trouble in a way that is healthy and not harmful and in a way that includes and acknowledges God? Whether our troubles are major or minor, the story of Job provides profound wisdom and guidance.
As you prepare to worship this Sunday pray for:
• A soft heart that is ready to receive what God has to say to you in the midst of worship.
• Pastor Peter as he preaches and the worship team as they lead us.
• Pastor Tom as he is away at Arrow Leadership offering on-site mentoring to leaders from across North America.

With thanksgiving for you, Pastor Tom.
