Why Do You Look For The Living Among The Dead?

Why Do You Look For The Living Among The Dead?

READ

Luke 24:1-12

CONSIDER

Luke 24 tells of the first scene after the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. As Paul the Apostle declares in 1 Corinthians 15, the gospel of Jesus Christ is clear: His death, His burial, and His resurrection according to the Scriptures. The resurrection is not an afterthought — it is the promise of God.  You would expect anticipation. You would expect hope. You would expect people to be watching, waiting, ready.  But instead — there is confusion.  The tomb is empty. The body is gone.  No one understands.

Then two men, in garments flashing like lightning, stand before the women and ask a piercing question:  “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”  The truth is — they were not looking for the living.  They came looking for the dead, they came with spices in their hands, and despair in their hearts.  They were searching in the wrong place because they were living with the wrong expectation.

And what about us?  Where are we looking for Jesus?  Are we seeking the living or are we still returning to dead places?  Are we shaped by past experiences, or awakened by future hope?  Today, let us come to the Scriptures, not just to read, but to see.  Not just to understand, but to be transformed.

Let the Spirit lead us from death to life.

PRAY

Dear Heavenly Father, we confess at times we look for the living among the dead.  We return to places shaped by fear, by disappointment, and by past experiences, instead of living in the hope of Your promise.  Lord Jesus, forgive us for expecting less than Your resurrection power, and for searching in the wrong places. Open our eyes, Lord, that we may see You as the Risen One. Renew our minds, Lord, that we may remember Your words and trust Your promises.  Holy Spirit, lead us out of confusion into clarity, out of despair into hope, out of death into life. Teach us not only to believe that You are risen, but to live as people who have been raised with You.  Guide us to seek the living and to walk in the resurrection hope.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

What “dead places” (habits, mindsets, past experiences) do I keep returning to?
Where have I allowed despair to replace hope?
Where is God inviting me to shift from death to life in my daily choices?
