Genesis 22:1-18
CONSIDER
If you zoom in on something (with a microscope for example), you will notice the finer details of the object. Zoom all the way out and the picture comes into context. When we come to Scripture, it’s important that we learn to do both as we study God’s Word for ourselves. It’s important to examine a text for its finer details but always interpret, understand and apply God’s Word in light of the bigger story of Scripture; of a God who is rescuing and redeeming this world.
As we dive into the life of Isaac and the story about his almost sacrifice, stepping back from the story allows us to see how this horror story of a (nearly) child sacrifice in Genesis 22 is actually a beautiful prototype for what Christ will one day do to rescue and redeem His people. Looking forward to worshipping together on Sunday.
PRAY
Father, help us to be a people who “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Help us to recall how you have already revealed yourself to us from Scripture and help us to remember your track record of faithfulness to us and those around us. By the strength of your Spirit, help us to walk in faithfulness as you have been faithful to us. Amen.
