The book of Acts provides a bridge for the writings of the New Testament. As a second volume to Luke\u2019s Gospel it joins what Jesus \u201cbegan to do and to teach\u201d (1:1) as told in the Gospel with what He continued to do and teach through the apostles\u2019<\/p>\n
preaching and the establishment of the church. Believers are to continue this work with the words of Jesus: \u201cYou will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.\u201d (Acts 1:8). Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Gospel went unhindered (In Greek, it is akolutos, meaning \u201cunhindered\u201d), and nothing would keep the church from fulfilling its divine purpose, as Luke re \u2013 assures us at the end of Acts. Luke has assembled a grand mosaic using facts like colored bits of broken pottery to display the work of God as He carries out His plan to redeem and transform the world. Through the Acts of the Apostles, we will review how the Holy Spirit was doing His work in the transformation of the infant Church. We will also be taking Acts as a pivotal book in understanding how it would fit God\u2019s grand scheme of redemptive history. Acts documents the launch of the new covenant (Jer. 31:31-34) and traces the new covenant community\u2019s phenomenal growth in the first three decades after Jesus\u2019 death and resurrection. The church has become God\u2019s instrument for stewarding the new covenant guided by the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
